Rock climbing and rappelling are favorite activities at Pilot Mountain where rocky cliffs offer a challenge to experienced climbers. Participants are responsible for their own personal safety, including securing proper training and equipment, and adhering to safe practices. Climbing is permitted in designated areas.
Pilot Knob Park is a semi-private facility that welcomes guest play during the week. Guest play is also welcome on weekends provided you play with a member. Designed by renowned course architect Gene Hamm, there are also areas for game improvement including the driving range, chipping range and putting green.
The western Surry County 716-acre game land covers a portion of Little Mountain and more than nine miles of Mitchell River tributaries, including Mill Creek and provides wildlife habitat, recreation, scenic vistas and water quality protection. The Mitchell River Game Land is open for hunting and fishing with hunting allowed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays of the applicable seasons.
Emily B. Taylor Greenway- 2 3/8 paved surface, multi-purpose trail that goes from West Lebanon Street to Worth Street in Mount Airy. Public parking is available behind Roses Shopping Center on Independence Street, Veterans Park on West Lebanon Street and on Bluemont Rd. behind Franks Cinema on Hwy 89 (Pine Street).
The Mountains-to-Sea Trail stretches 1,000 miles from Clingmans Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains to Jockeys Ridge on the Outer Banks. Today, more than 500 miles of footpath are built. With temporary connectors on back roads and state bike routes, people can now hike across the state.
The Sauratown Trail (ST) is a unique 21.70 mile trail that begins at the Tories Den parking area of Hanging Rock State Park and runs in a general WSW direction to the Surry Line parking area of Pilot Mt. State Park. The Sauratown Trail was built, and is maintained, by the volunteer efforts of the Sauratown Trails Association (STA), an equestrian group.

Our championship golf course was designed by Joseph Lee in 1973 to offer rolling picturesque fairways and undulating greens to create a true challenge for golfers of all skill levels. A Kris Spence renovation in 2007 enhanced our course and was voted one of the Top 100 golf courses in North Carolina. The aquatic and tennis staff continually offer exciting seasonal programming for all of our members and guests.
